Black lingerie has mystery. Peach has delicate vintage charm. Red enters the room several minutes before the person wearing it.
Recent Revival orders suggest that red is becoming the colour of the season. It appears across bras, gingham sets, panty girdles, high-waisted foundations and suspender belts, which gives us an excellent excuse to gather the different styles together.
The interesting thing about red is that it does not have a single personality. Fabric, print and construction can turn it from sweet to striking—and occasionally to something entirely unsuitable for polite conversation.
Playful Red Gingham
Our red-and-white gingham lingerie is red at its most cheerful. The oversized check has a picnic-blanket charm, while the matching bralette, knickers and six-strap suspender belt give it a clear 1950s pin-up influence.
The non-wired bralette has lightly padded cups for a smooth, rounded line, making it easier to fit and wear than a traditional cone bra. Wear the full set for maximum effect or use the bralette with plain red or black knickers when you want the print to do the talking.
Red with Proper Structure
The Red High Waisted Pull On Girdle 007 is a much more structured interpretation of the colour.
Firm-control satin-finish elastane and reinforced front panels shape the waist and tummy, while six adjustable metal-clip suspenders secure stockings and anchor the garment. Under a fitted black dress, it provides a smooth foundation with a private flash of colour. Worn as part of a lingerie look, it requires considerably less discretion.
The Red Panty Girdle 059 offers another option. Its smooth opaque stretch fabric provides comfortable shaping, while the six suspenders are detachable. Wear it with stockings for a complete pin-up look or remove the straps when you want a neat foundation beneath clothing.
Red After Dark
For something more daring, the Red Powernet Overt Panty Girdle combines medium-support powernet with an open cut and suspender straps. The result is unmistakably provocative, although the open construction is also practical when stockings are attached.
Then there is the Red 10-Strap Suspender Belt, which proves that dramatic lingerie can take engineering seriously. Ten adjustable metal-clip straps distribute the hold around each stocking, providing more security than a standard six-strap belt. The red body and black straps also make it easy to pair with black knickers, bras and stockings.
How to Mix Red with Black
Matching shades of red can be difficult, particularly when different fabrics reflect light differently. A red satin girdle will rarely look identical to a red lace bra, even if the colour names match.
Fortunately, they do not have to.
Black acts as a visual anchor and allows a single red garment to become the focus. Try a red girdle with a black bra and black seamed stockings, or wear an otherwise black lingerie set with a red suspender belt. Red-and-black seamed stockings provide an even smaller flash of colour.
If you prefer a complete set, repeat both red and black rather than attempting to match every red exactly. Black suspender straps, bows or trims will connect the pieces and make slight variations in shade look intentional.
