Panty girdles occupy a particularly clever corner of the lingerie drawer. They combine the coverage of high-waisted briefs with the smoothing effect of a girdle, then add suspenders so that your stockings can join the fun too. If you have never worn one before, a panty girdle is an easy introduction to retro foundation wear because everything is contained in one garment. There is no separate suspender belt to position over your knickers and no collection of waistbands competing for space beneath a fitted dress. Simply pull it on, attach your stockings and enjoy a little support around the tummy while the high waist creates a smoother line beneath clothing.
With or Without Stockings
Although panty girdles are personally my favourite way to hold up stockings, we know that stockings are not necessarily an everyday affair for everyone. The suspenders on these girdles are detachable, which makes the design far more versatile than it might first appear.
Leave them attached when you are wearing stockings, or remove them to create a high-waisted shaping brief for days when you simply want a little more smoothing beneath a dress, skirt or pair of high-waisted trousers. It is proper retro lingerie, but it earns its place in a modern wardrobe.
Candyfloss Pink or Lipstick Red?
The candyfloss pink version has all the sweetness of a 1950s dressing table, especially when worn with black lingerie and stockings. It is pretty without becoming too demure and makes a cheerful change from traditional black or beige shapewear.
Lipstick red takes a rather bolder approach. Wear it with black for classic pin-up drama, team it with red lingerie when only full technicolour will do, or allow it to remain your own well-kept secret beneath an otherwise respectable outfit.
Both colours are made by Revival in Nottingham, where the knowledge behind our foundation garments has been passed through generations of British lingerie manufacturing. The cheerful colours might attract the attention first, but it is the practical construction and wearable fit that keep panty girdles among our enduring favourites.
